Missions

First Baptist Jefferson is dedicated to serving our community and world in the name of Christ.  Throughout the year adults, youth and children participate in mission projects that feed the hungry, transform the community, offer hope to the downtrodden, and share the peace of Jesus.  These missions include:

New Life Children’s Home

In the summer of 2006, three adults and fifteen teenagers left Jefferson for a mission trip to Peru that was supposed to last for about ten days. Now, four years later, that mission is still going strong. That initial group formed a strong attachment to the infants and children at the New Life Children’s Home, an orphanage just outside the city of Lima, Peru. This orphanage, under the leadership of Mike Kennedy, resident missionary, takes in some of the tens of thousands of homeless and abandoned children left wandering and alone on the streets, busses, and church steps of Lima.

Since that initial trip, there have been several more, and a team is preparing now to depart in late March. The influence, however, is no longer limited to the members of FBC Jefferson. Members from around the community have become involved, and have felt their own lives changed by their involvement in this ministry. There is much, much more going on in Peru. Food Bank

The food pantry at FBC Jefferson began years ago as a few cabinets in the church office. Today it has grown into a full scale food distribution program involving nearly 50 volunteer workers. The food pantry is open three days a week to the community at large.

Health Fair

The WMU at FBC Jefferson holds an annual health fair for the local community that included blood pressure and cholesterol screening, dental clinic, and many other helpful booths providing services and information to visitors. Child care is also provided to those receiving services.

The ARK of Jackson County

FBC Jefferson supports the ARK of Jackson County, which is an organization providing assistance to persons experiencing a temporary loss of income, or who are in emergency situations.  Several members of FBC are active in the work of the ARK.  For more information, you can contact the Ark at (706) 367-8365.

Peace Place

Peace Place, while not a mission of FBC Jefferson, is supported by many of our members. Peace Place provides shelter and assistance to victims of domestic violence, and operates a Thrift Store in Arcade to help support its work.

Associate Deacons

The Associate Deacons of FBC Jefferson visit homebound community members, bringing meals and DVDs of church services, and offering a time of fellowship, care,  and prayer.

Stephen Ministers

The Stephen Ministry is lay-lead extension of pastoral care to those who seek emotional and spiritual support.

Other

Many other, smaller mission projects, such as Operation Christmas Child, support of Family Connection at Christmas time, are always ongoing with  Sunday School classes and other groups.
