Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season, a 40-day preparation for Easter. At First Baptist Church, we combine our service with Primera Iglesia Bautista de Jefferson for a time of self-reflective worship. The service is translated from English to Spanish or vice-versa. During the service, worshippers receive the sign of the cross on their foreheads with ashes. We are reminded that we come from dust and that we shall one day return to dust (Genesis 3:19). The sign of the cross is a symbol of hope that we will be resurrected with Jesus one day.
