For many, the Christmas Eve Communion Service is a favorite. With our appetite for buying and receiving gifts, the Christmas Eve service helps us stay focused on the real gift of the season, the Christ Child. It provides us with a moment of silence in the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season.
The service is brief and is highlighted by beautiful music, the lighting of the Christ Candle, a brief homily, and the serving of Communion. The service always ends with the singing of Silent Night as we all light candles. We exit the church in silence and like Mary, the mother of Jesus, ponder in our hearts the meaning of the coming of Jesus.
