Pastor to Students First Baptist Church of Jefferson

The Pastor to Students is responsible for overseeing the student department (6th grade – college) to ensure a smoothly operating, safe, and effective program. The pastor will recruit and train volunteers who will show the students God’s love, teach them God’s Word, and provide fellowship with God’s people—laying a foundation that will lead to spiritual growth.

This position is full-time, including Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and Wednesday nights.
Must be an ordained Minister or willing to be ordained. Baptist preferred.

Duties:
• Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the student ministry. Provide supervisory leadership and oversight of the student ministry team, ensuring each member’s consistent execution of vision, values, and programming to ensure the creation of a vibrant ministry environment that allows the students to grow and experience the gospel of Jesus on a weekly basis.
• Plan all student ministry elements for Sunday School, Sunday nights, Wednesday nights, summer camps, and other events as needed.
• Be the primary teacher for the students at all events.
• Plan special seasonal and monthly activities for the students.
• Attend students’ extracurricular events throughout multiple school systems.
• Plug into the community and school systems in order to reach and support the students with a goal of expanding the student ministry.
• Assist the Director of Children’s Ministry in the execution of VBS by participating in and helping to recruit volunteers for the program, as well as being available as needed for any special church activities.
• Recruit, train, schedule, and maintain adult volunteers to serve and provide relational discipleship with students.
• Organize training and planning sessions for student volunteers/workers.
• Make sure all volunteers and workers have current background checks on file and communicate the church's safety policy to all volunteers and workers.
• Investigate any complaints regarding student ministry workers.
• Prepare and oversee the ministry budget. Maintain a standard of careful stewardship, accurate budgeting, and consistent use of finance approval and reporting systems.
• Oversee the purchase, distribution, and use of all Student Ministry equipment and supplies.
• Be available to counsel and pray with students as needed.
• Pray regularly for the students and volunteers.
• Participate in training opportunities as offered.

Qualifications:
• An ordained minister (Baptist preferred) and mission-minded.
• Previous experience working with students in a leadership role, preferably in a ministry position.
• Well-rounded biblical background through formal education, or equivalent study and experience. Must have the ability to have thought-provoking and age-appropriate conversations with the students.
• Able to maintain a high level of integrity, discernment, and discretion with sensitive information and people.
• Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to perform under minimal stress when confronted with an urgent situation.
• Excellent teamwork and management abilities to lead ministry teams, multiple projects, and supervise employees, volunteers, and contractors.
• Ability to innovate, initiate, organize, complete, and follow up on applicable project work. Able to creatively problem-solve if issues arise.
• Ability to use technology to enhance, innovate, and organize lessons and events.
• Self-motivated to study and improve knowledge and skills in areas of responsibility as needed. Teachable.
• Willing to become a member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson.

Full-Time – Competitive salary based on education and experience. The apportionment of compensation between salary, housing allowance, and annuity/retirement savings is at the discretion of the Pastor to Students and may be modified annually or at the incidence of a significant event (i.e. home purchase, child birth, etc…) by agreement between the Pastor to Students and the Personnel Committee.

Reports to the Senior Pastor, Deacon Chair, and Personnel Committee.
